Parfait exemple du pur surfeur Hawaïen, Duane représente parfaitement l’Aloha spirit. Duane a grandi sur l’île d’Oahu, à Hawaï. Il commença à surfer à l’âge de 9 ans, et pris rapidement part aux compétitions junior locales, comme le championnat Rell Sunn Menehune. Pendant qu’il apprenait le surf à Makara, un spot internationalement reconnu, Duane se fit les dents avec les meilleurs riders du monde, en admirant Rusty Keaulana, Sunny Garcia et Johnny Boy Gomes sur tous les types de vagues, et pu tirer solo inspiration de leur talent. En 1993, il prit part au World Longboard Championship, qui se tenait pour la première fois à Haleiwa. En battant le champion du monde, il attira l’attention d’Oxbow, qui lui demanda de rejoindre la team internationale. Duane est ce que l’on appelle un waterman, qui a fièrement représenté la marque aux 4 fleurs sur tous les meilleurs spots de la planète.

He started surfing at age of 9, and soon took part in the local junior competition, the Rell Sunn Menehune Championship. While learning to surf in Makaha, an international renowed surf spot, Duane rubbedshoulders with the most best, admiring Rusty Keaulana, Sunny Garcia and Johny Boy Gomes on all types of waves, and drawing inspiration from world champion, he attracted the attention of Oxbow, who asked him to join international team. Duane is an all-round waterman, who has proudly represented the four-flower brand on trips to all the longboard spots the planet has to offer.
