SAN CLEMENTE, California (Saturday, November 08, 2008) – The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Longboard Tour (WLT) is going to make a 7:45am call for a potential 8am start of the Oxbow World Longboard Tour at San Onofre State Beach this morning. Today’s action will decide the 2008 ASP World Longboard Champion.
The Oxbow World Longboard Tour at San Onofre State Beach marks the last of two events on the ASP WLT with the top finisher at series’ end claiming the coveted title of ASP World Longboard Champion. Harley Ingleby (AUS), 25, claimed a victory at the first Oxbow World Longboard Tour event in Anglet, France and is still in the hunt for a repeat victory at San Onofre State Beach.
With unfavorable winds on the horizon for Sunday morning, the contest director, head judge and ASP WLT manager have decided that the most favorable conditions will be available this evening to crown this year’s ASP World Longboard Champion instead of tomorrow morning.
“We have a front with expected strong winds for early tomorrow morning and we’d like to try and finish today,” Al Hunt, ASP WLT Manager said. “We were going to start Round 4 and reassess conditions at 10am, but we’ve already decided to finish the event today.”
Today’s action will begin with Round 4 and will see the event’s top performers battle to claim the title of ASP World Longboard Champion and Oxbow World Longboard Tour Champion.
